The animation is believed to be an act inspired by a persistent vision. It is as old as 1650 in the paleolithic cave painting, where humans drew multiple figurines about animals with overlapping legs. It was later considered that the legs were in motion. Since then animation as an art form has established itself. Including stop motion, 3D animation, motion capture, rotoscope, and other such maneuvers, coming together to lay the foundation of what animation is today. There have been numerous contributions from many renowned veterans from around the world but none of the contributions aren’t even close to what Walt Disney has made animation today. Walt was the first person to add music and effects track to a cartoon. The first full-color three-strip technicolor processed film was create by Walt. He also came up with the idea for a full length animated film and later produced it. Walt was the first one to use television as an entertainment medium and later created a theme park in his last name, Disney.

There isn’t and can’t be a single conversation around animation without the mention of Disney’s name and his groundbreaking designs. The assembly techniques used in the industry today were introduced by Disney and it moved Walt to be the vanguard of the animation industry. The impact of his art is prevalent even today through the love and dedication for him, industry-wide.

Walter Elias Disney was one of the five children and was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. He lived in Missouri for most of his childhood where he developed his love for art. He was always encouraged to pursue his talents, even when his father didn’t approve of him. His brother and mother were very supportive at the time. While living in Missouri, Disney started painting, drawing, and selling pictures to friends and neighbors as his family was poor at the time and needed money. During his time in France, in 1919, Walt Disney met a fellow cartoonist and started working for the Kansas City Film Ad Company where he started making animations made out of cutouts. While working for the company, Walt was on the lookout for other options and he even started playing around with his camera. His interest in animation led to the opening of his own business and he recruited Fred Harman, from the ad company he was working for, as his first employee. Later, Walt hired a few other employees and started working on a series called Alice in Cartoonland. In 1923, Walt had to fine for bankruptcy but as they say, new beginnings! Walt had t relocate to LA and there he started a collaboration with Roy and Iwerks to create Disney Brothers’ Studio. Meanwhile, he faced another setback in the form of betrayal from his colleagues but that led him to work on the infamous Micky Mouse character. This character earned Disney it’s first Academy Award, an Honorary Award for such a character. Mickey Mouse was soon was made into the first sound and music equipped short called Steamboat Willie, that was a big hit. Once the wheel started turning, the Mickey character started making friends with Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie Mouse. One of the most popular early productions was the full color three-strip Technicolor cartoon film, Flower and Trees. This movie earned Disney his second Academy Award, for the best short film.

Walt’s interest in animating developed at a young age, and he quickly turned his hustle into a passion when he enrolled in the drawing and photography classes at McKinley high school and Chicago Art Institute. He never lost sight of his dream, even when he had to face setbacks or when his studio suffered from debt. He collaborated with his brother and old friend to open a new one. Walt dedicated his life to the work he created for our amusement, including the Disney theme park located in multiple countries. The processes Disney studio followed are a marvel in the industry and are prevalent to this day and age of digital formats.
