Designer Interview | Imam Buke

Today for our blog article series Designer Interview we have Imam Buck with us who designs under the name Buke Icon. He is known famously for his minimalistic yet detailed icon style and the way he portrays his imagination.

We have asked him a few questions about his journey as a designer. How his early life affected him and ultimately what inspired him as a designer. Let's know from him how does he create his designs and lots other. Enjoy!

Hi, tell us about yourself?

Hello, I am 25 years old designer  from the Siendeng sub-district, Gorontalo city in Indonesia.  I like making icons try out several styles with different colors and the most fun thing when creating icon families. Now I'm working in a studio called Makuta Creative besides that I create YouTube content "Tuanku" and develop my own brand called Bukeicon.

What made you want to become a designer? Also tell us a bit about your journey as a designer.

I really like drawing. When I was a child my father drew it on paper and I followed the drawing he made even though the drawing he did was not very good.

When I was in college, my friend Anang Suryana Musa invited me to build the only graphic design studio in Gorontalo called Makuta creative. At that time, I started to look at icons to be interesting things.

Icons are little things that make a big impact.

How would you describe your design style?

Starting with determining the theme that is made then looking for keywords related to that theme. After that, I started arranging the icons and doing the final polish on the Inkscape app. These icons are styled with more complex shapes with dotted lines. I will continue to develop this style in each icon set that I will create. I call this style Bukeicon 1.0.

Where do you find inspiration for new designs?

I usually see references on Pinterest, Dribbble, and others. I also often see the work of the famous icon designer that is on the Iconscout.

Icon design is very closely related to everyday life. Therefore, I often pay attention to things around and get inspired to make icons with shapes that are almost the same as items in the real world.

What pieces of your work you most proud of and why?

I really like all the icons that I have created. However, if I choose one of the 5000 icons, I will choose these icons because it is strange and popular, unfortunately, this icon file has been deleted :(

What made you want to become a contributor to Iconscout ?

Iconscout is a very interesting marketplace and is always nice to contributors. My reason for joining Iconscout is to display my icon then seen by many people and can help many people with the icons that I make. Besides that, the icons that I made have never been rejected and it was very good for me. Thanks, Iconscout.

What are the benefits you have received by uploading your work?

The advantage that I get besides the money is that I can better connect with various icon designers and icon buyers. My icon is often displayed on the front page on Iconcout, this helps me to reach more people who want to use icons that I created. I'm sure Iconscout will be even more successful in the next few years and will be good for all contributors.

What advice do you have for future Iconscout contributors?

I believe that good marketing starts with creating a quality and unique product. So, one must always practice every day no matter what because your best work may not be created in one try. And as the saying goes practice makes a man perfect. It's the hard work that will determine everything at the end!

Three things you like about Iconscout?

There are many things that I like from the Iconscout if I choose 3 this is what I like:

1. Care about contributors. I remember when I first registered on Iconscout I got a problem and they solved the problem well and quickly.
2. I really like the icon upload feature in Iconscout because it helps me fill in icon tags. I have uploaded a large number of icons and everything works very well.
3. Besides a good website they have social media that contains information about creative things and that really helped me as a contributor.
