In the prehistoric era, the man would use decorated and engraved staff and spears to show their cultural symbols. Much later, people started using ribbons and cloth decorations to symbolize their presence and distinguish their group from others. These earlier explorers used to symbolize their presence in a certain region they have raided with a sculpture or a spear, but as the civilization advanced, people started using flags as a symbol of their sovereignty.

Each flag created by either a nation or an organization or a state symbolizes it's belongingness to a group of people who share rules and regulations, goals, and beliefs in some form. Flags are also national symbols and each nation has it's own. The first flag was created somewhere around the 18th century to proclaim a piece of land. Similarly, when Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, he staffed the American flag on the moon. In 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary mounted mount Everest they erected Britain's 'Union Jack' on the summit.

The flag is created following a few universal symbols all across the world, be it an organizational flag or a national flag. These universal symbols hold meaning to the group of communities it represents, such as the Sun. The Sun represents unity and strength. The same can be found in the flags for Japan and Argentina. Japan is also known as the land of the rising sun and the symbol is clearly present at the center of their flag.

Just like the universal symbols, the colors too can have different meanings to each flag. These flags are available with this icon pack in multiple colors. The national flag icons are available too, just like the USA round flag icon or UK round flag icon. You can also download such flag icons for various states too in editable formats.

Country Flags

In the late 19th century, most European countries adopted a national flag. Earlier, flags were used as a field sign as specified in their military guidelines. However, the countries within the European borders started associating with a sigil long before the first flag. These sigils are believed to be the originator of flags all around the world. The UK flag, the Union Jack dates back to the early 1600s when King James VI inherited English and Irish thrones, thereby unifying Scotland, Ireland & England. Such vibrant is the history of all national flags in the world. At Iconscout, you can download the UK flag icon along with other country flags like the USA flag icon, Nepal flag icon, and many others. All flag icons are available in editable formats and can be downloaded royalty-free. Interestingly, the Ottoman flag, the flag of Turkey was adopted in 1844.

US State flags

US states started adopting symbols for their state flags around the 1890s when the country was represented in World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Most US State flags were designed between 1893 and the first world war. The flags from states showcase a variety of influences and historical profiles, as well as different design principles.  Most recently, the flag of Utah was updated in 2011, to fix incorrectly located text. Since 2020, Mississippi hasn't had a state flag since the retiring of its previous state flag. At Iconscout, we have collected the US flag icons for your design ideas. You must download the icon pack from our collection to differentiate your designs. The American flag icon along with its various state icons are all available for downloads and can be downloaded in many editable formats. The state flag icons are also available in various styles like round, outline, glyph icons, etc. and you can choose the one that suits your design layout the best.

Flags of Asia

Asia comprises six main geographical regions and sub-regions including Western Asia, Northern Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Asia, Southern Asia, South-East Asia. Asia is one of the largest continents on our planet inhabiting the two most populated countries, India & China in it. The whole continent is to the north of the equator except a few small islands in the southern corner. The continent engulfs around 50 countries in itself and each country adopted its own flags, as well as flags for associations and leagues such as the Arab League, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, etc. The oldest flag recoded is the Flag of Brunei. A few more historical flags consist of the flag of China, the flag of the kingdom of Cyprus, the flag of Georgia, and so on. These flags, all contain various design elements certain to their kind of land and the community it represents. Therefore, it becomes crucial to replicate the flags in the icons with the utmost finesse. The Flags of Asia Icons are available in editable formats like SVG, PNG, PSD, AI, etc. Just as they are available for raw usage. The icons are royalty-free and can be downloaded without any hassle.

Flags of Europe

The second smallest continent in the world is Europe and sometimes it's referred to as the largest peninsula too. It is the western portion of the Eurasian landmass and is located entirely in the northern hemisphere. Europe inhabits many sizable islands such as Iceland or the British Isles. Europe is shared by 44 sovereign states, not including countries like Turkey. The European Parliament, one of the three legislative branches of the European Union, staffed it's Council of Europe flag in 1983. In 1986, the flag was adopted once again by the European Communities which became the European Union, a political and economic union of 27 states, in 1992 continuing its usage. One of the first flags in among the many states in Europe is the flag of Uri from the 13th Century. The flag is a bull's head with a red nose ring and a red tongue on a yellow background. With these intricacies in flags, it's increasingly difficult to replicate them on vector images. The designer community follows guidelines to come up with ingenious new ways to create real-life images in the form of these flags. Flags of Europe icons are available for downloads immediately and can be edited too in the browser itself with the help of our in-browser plugin, Icondrop. You can download these icons in AI, ICO, PSD, PNG, SVG, and other latest file formats.
